JHHN 07 was great. JHHN 08 will be even better!   Our talented professional dancers are all Company members except B-boy Dallas Green and our own My D's Brian MacIan and David Birkenbilt.  They can do anything!  From ballet to jazz to hip hop to Latin dance to modern to salsa to braking to Capoeira to house dance, they can do it all! We also have 27 children from age 6 to age 15 at all levels who have been working hard since early September. Jazz Hip Hop Nutcracker training classes have been held at Stuart Hobson Middle School adn Miner Elementary school. The Jazz, Hip Hop Nutcracker is an original dance theater production created and developed by Momentum featuring Duke Ellington’s musical version of the holiday classic.  Momentum has added hip hop tracks, breakdancing, Latin and Brazilian dance and updated the story to reflect young urban audiences’s sensibilities.  The girl and boy leads in our story help each other discover their strengths through creativity.  It shows the power of art to transform and bring hope to young lives.   The production features over 25 talented Washington area children and teens trained at Capitol Hill Arts Workshop and Stuart Hobson Middle School, joining Momentum’s professional company and breakdancers led by Michelle Clark.  Michelle and her crew can bring it with breaking, popping, locking and fantastic acrobatic feats.  Audiences love them! Momentum has updated and given twists to the story of family, children, toys, magic and transformation.  We jump the joint with Ellington’s dynamic music, costumes you might not expect and hip hop's energy, rhythms and unbelievable moves. Instead of mice and soldiers, for example, you will see rats and action figures! The Sugar Plum Fairy?  No way! Get a load of our Sugar Rum Cherry!
