| Booking Information Momentum is available for full length dance and dance theater performances, workshops, outreach, residencies and teaching. The Company offers a number of programs: Jazz, Hip Hop Nutcracker Momentum's original production is a contemporary spin on the holiday classic. Using Duke Ellington's version of the Nutcracker as a musical base, we tell a modern story of 2 children who are struggling to find themselves. One is a visual artist, one a writer, both of htem love to dance. They meet at the holiday party, receive magical gifts from the mysterious Mr. D, and create the rest of the show from their imaginations. We present jazz, hip hop, breakdance, salsa, Latin dance, house music and tap, supplementing the Ellington score with the best in hip hop, rap, house and contemporary music. The professional Company is joined by a cast of community children from 6-16 years old, from beginner to advanced. The diverse cast includes guest B-boys and B-girls (breakdancers to those of you over 30!), and some incredible dancing! The Jaz z Hip Hop Nutcracker is available for touring with the professional cast and the 2 child leads. Dance Sampler Program A full-length concert of Company repertory including high energy hip hop, jazz dance and house dance pieces, lyrical modern jazz works and sensuous duets and trios. Our repertory reflects a range of musical tastes: Janet Jackson, Outcast, The Sugar Hill Gang, Duke Ellington, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Charlie Parker, the Buena Vista Social Club, Rhumba Club, traditional tangos playedd by the Tango Project and others. Our issues oriented pieces that blend text, movement, song and rap: Collard Greens and Gefilte Fish A provocative, funny look at Black/Jewish relations and the cultural framework that unites and divides Blacks and Jews. We see the angry young Black man, the immigrant Jew, the multicultural thought police, the Black urban professional, African and Klezmer dancers--even a rapping Jew! THIN A frank, witty Journey through the minefield of women, body image and societal expectations from frustration to acceptance. Features: a special song for Calista Flockhart ("I Wanna Be A Zero"), a bulimic's story, our version of the aria from Carmen ("I Hate My Thighs") and a demonstration of the world's first brassiere precision drill team! Living Doll: the Secret Lives of Barbie and Ken Looks at childhood memories and the problems of perfection through these 2 plastic icons. To a musical mix ranging from Bobby Darin to Chopin and from The Ramones to the blues * you’ll meet Barbie on a bad hair day and at an AA meeting, Ken having second thoughts about his sexuality. The piece explores gender roles, race, age and the struggle to look young. |
